The ISU follow a mowing schedule that includes the grass in all specified parks, berms and reserves within the Waitomo District.
Our main focus is on maintenance and to reduce hazards for public safety (particularly line of sight), maintaining public access and fire fuel reduction.
Te Kuiti, Mokau, Piopio, Aria and Kiritehere cemeteries are mown by the ISU.
Changes are made to the mowing schedule in response to current operating conditions (for example wet weather/ ground conditions), to prevent work from causing damage to the grass surface or producing divots.
During summer, the annual weeds grow quickly through the grass (especially after rain). This can give the impression that the grass has not been mown for some time. The ISU are aware of the seasonal growth periods of grass and make allowances for this in the mowing schedule.
Every effort is made to get the mowing completed in an efficient manner with minimal disruption to the public.
These are some of the designated mowing sites:
- Te Kuiti Domain
- Parkside Subdivision
- Shearer Statue
- Brook Park
- Mangaokewa Reserve
- Centennial Park and Sports ground
- The Esplanade Reserve (along the riverbank) in Te Kuiti
- Ward Street Reserve
- Kara Park Piopio
- Village Green Piopio
- Marokopa Sports ground
- Mokau Boat Ramp entrance road (parking area)
Ground maintenance of Council assets is also undertaken, for example Te Kuiti, Piopio and Benneydale Wastewater Treatment Plants, Waitomo Cultural & Arts Centre.
