Waitomo District Citizens Awards

These awards celebrate and recognise the incredible achievements of individuals, who through their outstanding community spirit and dedication, have made a significant contribution to the Waitomo District.

Waitomo District Citizens Awards 2016

Lifetime Achievement Awards:

Sarah Ashby – in recognition many years of outstanding service to many community groups and organisations throughout the Waitomo district including but not limited to the Catholic Church, Victim Support, Maori Womens Welfare League, Waitomo Support Centre and Te Kuiti Foodbank to mention a few.

Edith McIndoe – in recognition of her outstanding service and commitment to the Waitomo community in particular her role organising many trips and adventures for many members of the community over many years.

Graeme Plenderleith – in recognition of his outstanding service to both young and old in the Waitomo district community over many years including academics, sport, music and dance to mention a few.

Citizen of the Year 2016:

Sheryl Johnson - for her outstanding contribution to the welfare of the people of the Piopio community by initiating the setting up of the Piopio Community Swimming Pools Charitable Trust to ensure the continued availability of a swimming pool for the Piopio schools and community to enjoy.
