Draft ReZoning

Welcome to the draft zones. As part of the District Plan review, we are considering some new zones for the District. Using the search below, you will be able to see the draft zoning for your property if you live in one of the towns or villages listed.

The type of zones that we are allowed to have are set out by the National Planning Standards which were gazetted by Central Government on 5th April 2019. Staff are working through this document at the moment to make sure that our proposed zoning aligns with the Standards.

These zones are not final decisions, but rather are a starting point for discussions. The communities of Marokopa, Te Waitere, Kinohaku, Benneydale, Piopio, Hangatiki and Waitomo Caves Village (including Fullerton Road) have had a chance to see the suggested zoning over the course of various open days. However, for the residents of Te Kuiti, Mokau, Awakino, Aria, Taharoa and Oparure, this will be your first opportunity to have a look at what we are proposing.

At the moment, nothing is set in stone, so please treat this as a preview. For example, below is Te Kuiti's core business area. You can select the name of your town in the search box below to see more details and to view the map key. The map key identifies the colour of each of the zones.

For the remainder of the district, it is likely that you will be in the Rural Zone. We will release these maps later in 2019. We are also working through all of the overlays that are required by the Resource Management Act 1991 and the Regional Policy Statements for Waikato and Manawatu Wanganui. This includes considering layers for hazards, landscapes and significant natural areas.
