2019 Local Elections Representation Review

In accordance with the Local Electoral Act 2001, the Waitomo District Council reviewed its representation arrangements on August 21, 2018 and resolved to retain the current representation arrangements. On that basis Council gives notice that the following proposal applies for the elections to be held on October 12, 2019.

Council Representation

It is proposed that the Council comprises six elected members from two wards, and the Mayor elected at large. The two wards reflect the urban and rural communities of interest. The population that each member will represent is as follows:

* The population has been taken from Statistic New Zealand’s normally resident population estimates for the Waitomo District for 2013.

In accordance with section 19V (2) of the Local Electoral Act 2001 the population that each member represents must be within the range of 1,485 +/- 10% (1,337 to 1,634), unless particular community of interest considerations justify otherwise.  Both wards fall within the stipulated range.

Community Boards

The proposal is not to establish any Community Boards.

Submissions are invited

Persons with an interest in the proposed representation arrangements are invited to make written submission on the proposal. Submissions must be addressed to The Chief Executive, Waitomo District Council and must be received by Council by 4.00pm on Monday 8 October 2018.  Submissions may be submitted by the following methods:

Submitters wishing to be heard in support of their submission must clearly state this in their submission.  All submitters wishing to be heard will be given notice of the date and time of the hearing.
