Road closure - Pukerimu Road

Pukerimu Road is currently closed due to the formation of a hole that has compromised the road. A detour is in place on Kopaki Road.

Representation Review 

In accordance with the Local Electoral Act 2011, The Waitomo District Council reviewed its representation arrangements on 30 July 2024 and resolved to retain the existing representation arrangements for the elections to be held on 11 October 2025. Public Notice inviting submissions on this initial proposal was given on 1 August 2024. One submission was received which Council considered at its meeting on 24 September 2024. 

Following deliberations of the submission, Council adopted the initial proposal with no changes.

Council Representation


Council continues to comprise of six members elected from two wards, and the Mayor elected at large. The two wards reflect the urban and rural communities of interest and are called the Te Kūiti Ward and the Waitomo Rural Ward. The population that each member will represent is as follows:

* The populations used are the estimated resident population as at 30 June 2023 provided by Statistics NZ. They use the 2018 census as their base.

In accordance with section 19V (2) of the Local Electoral Act 2001 the population that each member represents must be within the range of 1,620 +/- 10% (that is 1458 to 1782), unless particular communities of interest considerations justify otherwise. Both wards fall within this range.

Appeals

Anyone that made a submission to the initial proposal is able to make an appeal on this decision, however it must relate to the matters that were raised in the original submission. Appeals must be made in writing and must be received by Council no later than Friday 25 October 2024.
